Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby Ahaa-ahaa-aaaa*

Here at mb, our language of choice for most projects is Ruby. Personally, I love the Ruby language. I find that the language works exactly how I think. But that's another post for another day. All that aside, we primarily use the Rails framework, but recently another one that has caught my eye: Camping.

Camping is a lightweight MVC framework for Ruby that uses ActiveRecord for the models. I'm all about keeping things simple and this may help. Don't get me wrong, I love Rails. It's just that sometimes I don't want all that Rails has to offer. Camping looks like a good place to start if you're looking for the basics.

Rails

Camping

*random reference to the song 'Ruby', by the Kaiser Chiefs.

Don't think so much

When trying to juggle lots of tasks, one can easily wind up feeling disoriented. It often gets to a point where productivity becomes non-existent. As a result, more tasks keep piling up and the problem keeps getting worse. How do you break out of the cycle?

Stop thinking

It's easy to overthink a task, especially when stress is a factor. Accept that invite for lunch, take a walk, put your head on the desk and nap a bit - clear your head. Once the brain slows down, it can begin to logically and efficiently process information again.

Break it down

Once broken down to their simplest terms, most tasks really aren't that big of a deal. Big things are usually a combination of lots of little things.

One thing at a time

You can't do everything at once. Make a list, focus on one task, do it well, and move on. You'll be done sooner than you thought.

Ready, Set, Focus

Welcome to Spurt, the voice of Metabahn. As this is the first post, I wanted to provide readers with what we envision this site to be. The idea originated from the desire to have a place to share thoughts, ideas, information, and to just contribute to the general interestingness of the web. Here's some thoughts on topics off the top of my head:

Standards & Usability

General Web Application Development

Human Interfaces

Rails Development

Consulting Practices

Server Setups

Workflow/Project Management

Until next time.
